  • Partially premixed flamelet approach has been becoming one of the most promising formulations for modeling and simulating supersonic combustion. A systematic review of the developed history of flamelet approach for supersonic combustion is presented. Two fundamental issues of this approach are summarized, those are, the physical rationality of the flamelet approach for supersonic combustion and its modeling problem. The difficulties of the application of flamelet approach to supersonic combustion are emphasized and the overall considerations needed for modeling the suitable flamelet models for supersonic combustion are presented. This paper gives a reasonable direction for development and application of partially premixed flamelet approach to supersonic turbulent combustion.
