Abstract: Meshless approximations based on kernels function, moving least-squares, and partitions of unity are examined. Methods for constructing discontinuous approximations and approximations with discontinuous derivatives are also described. Next, some issues in implementation are reviewed f discretization (collocation and Galerkin), quadrature methods, and so on. At last, the paper concludes with some sample calculations.
