Abstract: This paper summarizes the development of the research on indentation problems during the last ten years or so. It emphasises the new achievements in theoretical and experimental researches on indentation fracture of brittle materials, and discusses the relations between dynamic and static indentation fracture. Finally a new method of determining fracture toughness relevant to indentation is described
